Why I Paint Wildlife On Wood

According to British biologist, Roland Ennes, wood is central to human history. It is the one material that has continuity in our evolution and culture. Whether you recognize it in the form of furniture, wood sculpture, wood turning, crafting, construction, etc. wood is a beautiful material that quite often is buried or burned as scrap. As an artist and in recognition of its beauty, I paint wildlife on selected pieces of hard wood. Wood is my canvas. It has the color, grain and texture to complement the eagles, hawks, falcons, wolves, owls, horses and other wildlife that illustrate how certain species of wood and these wild creatures go together. It can be turned, planed, carved, bent, woven and used as fuel. I chose to paint on it.
