BARBARA SMITH
"Artists who are heralds of society's ills or who use their art to make statements of the plight of humankind and all our difficulties is not the focus of my own art. All days bring problems and some with supreme challenges--yet in those days are moments of exquisite beauty in color, texture, light, atmosphere, and such that go unnoticed. I try to prompt people to see them in a brand-new way, a contemplative way. To see again a world that offers itself continually every day. Whether I'm painting landscapes, porches or still life, I want to apprehend someone's eye to linger on the ordinary and see it anew".
Barbara has lived in Maryland all her life and has studied with professional artists throughout her life since 1973. She considers ongoing art education essential and has stated often, "One can always learn more" over the years.
Barbara has received top honors in area fairs and festivals, and her paintings have been accepted into numerous juried competitions. Among those have been shows in New York City with the American Artist Professional League and the Hudson River Valley Art League.
Additionally, the RE/MAX American Dream company purchased seventeen of her paintings for their offices in Bel Air, Maryland area.
