Kathleen Howsare

Painting since she was 8 years old, Kathleen began showing and selling her work in high school. She earned a BA in studio art from Mary Washington College and studied painting under acclaimed Virginia artist Julian Binford. She later received a teaching degree in art from MWC and taught art in public schools for over 32 years. During this time she earned an MFA in painting from American University.

Kathleen has lived in Loudoun County for 38years and has been retired from teaching for over 10 years. She enjoys painting local landscapes, buildings and wildlife. Working mainly in acrylic, Kathleen paints in an impressionist representational style. She loves color and texture and some of her work employs the use of paper texture under the paint. In addition to painting on canvas and panel, Kathleen paints on old barn wood. This lends itself to realistically rendered wildlife, farm animals and barns. Her more recent work employs brushwork with over painting using a palette knife.
