Kristen Colebank

Kristen Colebank is a representational painter, usually working in watercolor, and her paintings are inspired by the overlooked edges of small towns, rural landscapes, and familiar items. Edges suggest boundaries and clear definitions, a language of dark and light patterns, but in art and life many edges are subtle and ephemeral. Watercolor is ideal for exploring this tension as Colebank juxtaposes fluid washes, ripe with soft transitions, against sharp boundaries.

Colebank has exhibited work in regional exhibitions in the Mid-Atlantic and regularly teaches watercolor classes. She enjoys painting on location "en plein air," and she won two awards at the inaugural Art at the Arboretum plein air event at Blandy during September 2023.
