I love to turn wood! I spend way too much time in the shop working on my art and teaching. Most of my turnings begin with fresh cut local trees. Fortunately, Fredericksburg is blessed with an abundance of non-native species brought here since the 1700’s. Each piece takes into account the unique properties of the wood specie and it’s moisture content.
I commonly decorate the turnings with silouettes of animals and spend a lot of effort trying to create movement or an interaction between the elements. Pyrography is used to create negative and positive space and which is further enhanced with acrylic pigments.
