Gwen Casey-Higgins

GWEN CASEY-HIGGINS lives, works and makes art in Clarke County, Virginia. She and her husband enjoy their small farm along the banks of the Shenandoah River where they raise Irish Dexter cattle, a rare breed. The surrounding countryside and farm provide ample inspiration for her plein air paintings.

She works in a variety of mediums: clay and metal sculpture, printmaking, stained and fused-glass, pastels, but her main emphasis is on oil painting.

Gwen is drawn to the landscape -- from the sky, to the mountains, to the water and trees, or an occasional cow. She uses a colorist approach to simplify the scene while adding emotional interpretations though both vivid and subtle colors. She enjoys the interplay of complementary and contrasting color palettes in her work.
