Lu Harris

My art journey began by taking a few private painting lessons which led to enrolling in the Fine Arts program at NVCC for two years, followed by the Studio Art program at George Mason University. While pursuing my studies, I entered shows, took Life Drawing classes, and volunteered at the Torpedo Factory Gallery in Old Town Alexandria. Later, I continued my studies abroad with Smithsonian trips to France, Italy, and Spain, studying Cezanne, Monet, Van Gogh, and Sorolla – the Spanish Impressionist “painter of light.”

I have taken several workshops with Albert Handell, widely known Master of Pastels. This has always been my favorite medium to use however I do venture back to acrylics and mixed media.

Teaching private lessons to Adults and children in Acrylic, Mixed Media and Pastel has helped me to look at what I need to improve on.

Lastly, I am proud to say that I have won awards for Pastel and Mixed Media at the Torpedo Factory and the League of Reston Artists.

For the past year and half  I have been a member of Creative Brush Studios. Here I am able to exhibit new works or themed works and or create private Commissions for collectors.
